Cherry Lime Smoothie – Dietitian Approved

I’ve been making cherry smoothies for the past 2 weeks. Okay, last week I was sick and didn’t do much of anything besides necessities. But, the week before I was determined to develop the perfect cherry smoothie. I wanted a perfectly red/pink smoothie for Valentine’s day. Unfortunately, I ended up sick and didn’t finish the smoothie recipe in time for Valentine’s Day. But, this cherry lime smoothie is worth the wait.

And it’s ok, you don’t have to wait until next Valentine’s Day to make it. The cherry lime smoothie is actually the perfect winter compromise to the fresh cherries we get to enjoy in summer. Fresh cherries in the summer have to be my favorite summer fruit. But they are so short lived. It seems like one minute you are eating them by the bowl full and the next moment the price has sky rocketed at the grocery store and your budget says no.

This smoothie recipe actually took quite a few tries. I know, it’s just a smoothie…how bad can you mess it up?

As it turns out, you can mess a smoothie up pretty bad. In fact, my first cherry smoothie was a complete flop. At some point while I was making it I decided to add vanilla. Which would have been good, except I added way too much vanilla. I was motivated to save it and decided that maybe it would taste better as a popsicle. (I think I confused vanilla with vanilla ice cream.) So, I froze it. Casey looked at me like I was crazy. Because really since when does freezing an already almost-frozen smoothie compensate for too much vanilla? As it turns out, it doesn’t.

The Perfect Cherry Lime Smoothie

However, sometimes after several tries, it happens. You add limes, cherries, and everything else in just the right proportions and make the perfect cherry lime smoothie. If you love a tart, icy, fruit smoothie you will love this. It was the perfect treat for my taste since my smoothies are usually more vegetable based like my Apple Cider Green Smoothie. But, don’t worry, I threw in handful of spinach as well.

Cherry Lime Smoothie

This tart cherry lime smoothie is a delicious treat.

Servings: 2 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups Frozen Cherries
  • 1/2 cup Frozen Strawberries
  • 1 cup spinach
  • 1 Banana
  • 1-2 Limes, Juiced Depending on tartness (I used the juice of 1.5 limes)
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  • Blend all of the ingredients together in a blender. Enjoy!
