As a mom of 3 little ones, I’ve been through my fair share of diaper bags, mom bags, tote bags, backpacks, and everything in between. Finding just the right bag to organize ALL your stuff, feel comfortable, and that is durable enough to keep clean is quite the feat! Hopefully in this list of the best bags for moms you find just what you are looking for.
Today I’m not only sharing my FAVORITE BAGS I’ve discovered but also a few bags I’ve had my eyes on or my friends have bought and loved.
My FAVORITE Mom Bag Picks (Quick Version)
- BEST Mom Backpack – I love my Freshly Picked backpack best. Plus, there are two size options. I have the mini, which is perfect for me (but if you have 2 kids in diapers, you may opt for the original.)
- Crossbody Mom Bag – The Kavu Original Rope Sling Bag is one of my favorite bags. I’ve had mine for probably 10 years (well before I had kids), but I still use it all the time for playtime at the park or quick trips out of the house. It’s functional but does not look like a Mom Bag, if you know what I mean.
- Best Mom Bag for Baby & Toddler – Again, the Freshly Picked is my favorite, but many moms love the Original Itzy Ritzy for this stage.
- Best Mom Tote Bag – I’ve had (an older version) of this stylish tote for 7 years and love it.
- Mom Purse Backpack – This super affordable purse backpack is a favorite among moms. It’s great for needing that in-between option (more than a purse, but smaller than a typical diaper bag.)
7 Best Bags for Moms
Ok, here is the full list of the best bags for moms. Whether you have little kids and are in the newborn with a toddler (or 2) stage or if your kids are older, these are my favorite bags to hold all of your & your kid’s gear!
1. Freshly Picked Mini
I have and LOVE the Freshly Picked Mini. I find it to be the perfect mom purse backpack ever!
This is the only diaper bag that I will even carry if it’s just me and my five-year-old, as we can both stick our water bottles in it and anything else we may need. So yes, while it is technically a diaper bag, I think it can double as a mom purse.
PROS:
- Very stylish
- It is a diaper bag meaning it does have some convenient functions like an insulated pocket if you need that kind of thing.
- Wipes clean easily.
CONS:
- The bottom corners of mine are showing (minimal) wear after a year. It’s not bad, but worth mentioning.
- It may not be a big enough mom bag for you, depending on how many water bottles you need it to hold.
2. Street Level Tote Bag
I actually bought this older version of the bag at the mall many years ago…and I still have it! In fact, I think I bought it before I even had kids. I have used it for my laptop as well as a bag to throw everything in for a day away.
There are no pockets, so I find it best to use small zipper pouches in it to organize your things.
PROS:
- Very stylish and large.
- Open bag allows for plenty of space and throwing in various things.
- It’s best if you don’t need everything highly organized.
- Wipes clean easily.
CONS:
- No pockets on the inside. I find the need for zipper pouches and silicone pouches in order to organize my necessities.
3. Parker Bag
PROS:
- Very stylish and large.
- 10+ pockets, including bottle pockets
- Easy to organize if you have a baby or young toddlers who still need diapers, wipes, spare clothes, and 100 other “baby” things
- Truly a multi-functional mom bag, as it also includes a laptop compartment.
CONS:
- A few reviewers note that the stitching on the straps becomes loose quickly.
- Does have more of a diaper bag look.
4. Kavu Original Rope Sling Bag
The Kavu rope sling bag is the bag I’ve had the longest. Mine is probably 10 years old and still holding up strong.
PROS:
- Comes in various prints/colors.
- Very stylish – not a diaper bag look.
- It is versatile and can be used for multiple things.
- Lightweight canvas-like fabric.
CONS:
- It can only be carried across one shoulder (not be switched due to design) so it can be less comfortable for long periods of time.
5. Itzy Ritzy Diaper Backpack
PROS:
- Features 17 pockets – including insulated bottle pockets.
- Comes in 10+ various fabric/style options.
- Very stylish & chic looking.
CONS:
- A few reviewers found that the vegan leather wore quickly (however, they were sent replacements)
6. Zocilor Backpack Purse
PROS:
- This versatile bag can be worn as a backpack or with a shoulder strap.
- Comes in 30+ various fabric/style options.
- Very stylish and can easily be worn in a variety of settings.
CONS:
- The main opening is small, which can make retrieving your items a bit more challenging.
7. Walker Family Goods Arrow Pack
The Walker Family Goods Arrow Pack is an adorable backpack that makes a great mom bag. With the ability to zip open and plenty of pockets for organization, it’s incredibly versatile and can be used for multiple purposes.
Additionally, Walker Family Goods is a small family-owned company which is always a plus.
This is the most recent bag that I’ve purchased and it’s the perfect adventure pack for short hikes.
PROS:
- This versatile bag can be used for so many different purposes.
- Comes in 20+ color options.
- Very well made and easy to clean.
CONS:
- No bottle compartments if you are using it for a young baby.
What Should You Look for in the Perfect Mom Bag
As a busy momma, you need the most functional bag. But that doesn’t mean you need to sacrifice style. There are many things you probably want to consider when buying your new mom bag.
1. Style & Design
Look for a design that resonates with your fashion preferences, whether it’s a classic, trendy, or minimalist look. There are several different design options in bags for moms:
- Backpack Purse
- Diaper backpack
- Crossbody
- Messenger Style
- Tote Bag
Choosing a versatile bag that can work in many situations will make the value even better. For example, a bag that can transition from a diaper bag to an everyday bag makes for a great investment.
2. Function & Size
Consider what you want to use the bag for and evaluate its features to see how functional it will be for you and your situation. For example, do you need bottle pockets or a diaper-changing pad? Would a large open tote bag be best for you, or do you want 10+ pockets?
3. Comfort and Ergonomics
Since moms often carry their bags for extended periods, comfort is crucial. Choose a bag with padded straps or handles to reduce strain on the shoulders and back. Adjustable straps are a plus, as they allow the bag to be worn in different ways to suit various situations.
Honestly, I typically find backpacks to be the most ergonomic and easiest choice as they distribute the weight evenly and allow you to avoid awkward and uncomfortable positions more easily.
4. Maintenance/Cleanability
Babies and toddlers can be messy, so a bag that’s easy to wipe clean or machine washable will save you time and hassle. Consider whether having a waterproof or water-resistant bag would be important to you.
Do you have a favorite “mom bag?”
In the world of modern motherhood, finding the perfect bag that seamlessly blends style, functionality, and practicality is a triumph. Being a mom doesn’t mean sacrificing your personal style or settling for an ugly diaper bag. Whether you choose a beautiful backpack diaper bag or a more versatile mom bag like the Arrow pack, I hope this list of my favorite mom bags is useful to you!
