My kids love to make smoothies and I learned very quickly that a good cup is key in serving it. As a Registered Dietitian and Mom of 3, I prefer plastic-free cups with straws that are simple to wash for smoothies.
I have tried quite a few different toddler cups, and it seems like every time I look, there are new ones being made. However, my favorite all-around toddler cups (for smoothies, milk, water, or really anything we drink at home) are the Elk & Friends Glass cups. This versatile cup is great for any beverage – smoothie included. We have had ours for FOUR YEARS and use them all the time. (We have yet to have one break and they have been dropped MANY times.)
3 Best Smoothie Cups for Toddlers
1. Elk & Friends Cups
The Elk & Friend Toddler Cups are my all-around favorite straw cups for toddlers. From smoothies to water, they are super versatile. My mom even got a set for grandkids to use at her house. They are perfect for smoothies or any liquid at home.
2. Wee Sprout Stainless Steel Kids Cups
The Wee Sprout Stainless Steel Cups are another great option for smoothie cups for toddlers.
3. Boon Snug Cup with Straw
The Boon Snug Cup with Straw is a great option because the lid and straw can actually fit on any cup, turning any cup into a toddler smoothie cup. We have something very similar and they are handy.
What Features to Look for in a Toddler Smoothie Cup
There are a few things I look for when picking cups for my kids. Here’s a quick list of the most important things I recommend parents notice:
- Straws over Sippy Cups – First, I prefer toddler straw cups to sippy cups. You can read more about that here. Here are some other things to consider in straws,
- A Large Straw: For smoothies, the straw needs to be big enough for smoothie to move through properly. (While we have many Funtainer cups and love them, the straws do not allow for smoothie to move through easily.)
- Straw Stopper: My favorite Elk & Friends cups have been updated to include a straw stopper now so your toddler can’t pull the straw out. This is a great feature because 1-year-olds, in particular, love to pull out their straws.
- Easy to clean – Smoothies can make a sticky mess, and for any toddler cup, I only want the ones that break down quickly and are easy to clean. We have had water bottles and cups in the past with hidden crevices that seem prone to growing bacteria.
- Lids – Young toddlers especially need lids on their smoothies. I can give a smoothie to my 4-year-old in any cup with just a silicone straw, and he will be fine, but my 2-year-old needs a lid.
- Not Plastic – If you read my big round-up on the best cups for toddlers, you know I prefer cups made of stainless steel, glass, or silicone. I don’t like my kids to drink out of plastic, which is actually the recommendation of the AAP, though many do not realize it.
