  1. Mini Larabars – Larabars are a family favorite of ours because they are made with simple ingredients and most flavors are sweetened only with dates and other fruits. They make a great snack paired with a vegetable or simply alone if only packaged snacks are allowed.
  2. Skout Kids bars – A more allergy friendly option than larabars as they’re made with sunflower and pumpkin seeds instead of nuts.
  3. RX Kids Bars – Similar to Lara and Scout bars, but they also contain egg white for additional protein. These are a favorite healthy packaged snack for my 4 year old son.
  4. Chewy Kid Kind Bars – Though they do contain 5 g added sugar these are a more budget friendly option if you are buying for the whole class. Kind bars are well-liked by kids and adults alike and come in a variety of flavors.
  5. Stoneyfield Yogurt Pouches – These are my favorite yogurt pouches for kids as they contain less added sugar than other brands. I buy the whole milk variety as it keeps the kids full for longer
  6. Babybel or String Cheese – Serve alongside crackers, fruit, or veggies.
  7. Veggie Straws – This is one of my son’s favorite snacks to take to share for the class. While they don’t provide much nutritional value, the kids enjoy them and I usually send them along with another snack.
  8. Annie’s Whole Wheat Bunnies – I love that these are made of whole grain, but the cheddar bunnies can be a fun (albeit less healthy) option to bring for Kindergarten snacks as well.
  9. Pirates Booty – Again, not a ton of nutrition but they are a fun snack served along side a more nutrient dense protein or produce option.
  10. Mandarin Oranges (or other fruit cups) – Be sure to look for fruit cups packed in water or 100% juice.
  11. Raisins – Either individual raisin packs or a large container can be fun for a snack.
  12. That’s It Bars – Made of just fruit these bars are easy to find at many stores including Target which is sometimes a must when you realize last minute you’re in charge of school snacks to bring…tomorrow!
  13. Gogo SqueeZ – Easy to find applesauce (or other fruit/veggie flavors)
  14. Mama Chia Pouches – Another pouch option. These are chia seed based making them a good source of fiber and omega 3s.
  15. Simple Mills Soft Baked Almond Flour Bars – We love these simple mills bars. Like all Simple Mills products, the ingredient list is minimal yet the product is delcious.
  16. Cottage Cheese Cups
  17. Nature’s Bakery Baked In Bars – These are a a bit higher in sugar than I usually aim for in a snack (7 grams), but much lower than the Nature’s Bakery Fig bars (14 g) and kids love them.
  18. Enjoy Life Foods Chewy Bar (Carmel Blondie) – Enjoy life chewy bars are perfect if you need something allergy friendly! While other varieties have more added sugar, the Carmel Blondie flavor only has 1 g added sugar.

  2. Pepper Sticks
  3. Cucumber Slices – Slice cucumbers into spears or rounds
  4. Small Clementine Oranges – Try to get something like cuties that kids can peel themselves.
  5. Bananas
  6. Apple Slices – Buy from deli or prepackaged if you can only send packaged or individually wrapped snacks.
  7. Strawberries or even sliced kiwi

Tips for Kindergarten Snacks

  • Make snacks easy to eat and less messy as they are likely eaten in the classroom.
  • If your kindergartener shares snacks on a snack rotation, make sure you follow the school’s guidelines for sending snacks. For example, at my kid’s preschool we can send cut produce but not homemade baked goods. Additionally, the allergies are simply class dependent.
  • Know whether your child’s school/classroom is nut free. Some school’s are nut free even if snacks are not shared.
